Former Iran striker dies from lung cancer

TEHRAN -- Safar Iranpak died on Friday afternoon at the age of 60 after a protracted battle with lung cancer.

The former striker for Iran’s national football team passed away in a hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
Iranpak is the best scorer of Tehran’s derby between Persepolis and Esteghlal team. The previous Persepolis player scored seven times in 12 matches.
He also played a big role in Iran’s championship in the 1972 Asian Cup.
He is likely to be laid to rest in Tehran, according to his friends.
