Esteghlal thrashes its Ahvazi counterpart

AHVAZ -- Iran Professional League (IPL) pace-setter, Tehran’s Esteghlal, beat Esteghlal of Ahvaz 3-0 at the Takhti Stadium on Saturday.

In the 24th week of the IPL, Esteghlal completed a double over Ahvaz’s team. The Tehran-based team had defeated its rival 6-0 in the first half of the season.
After just two minutes into the game, Siavash Akbarpour put Esteghlal into a lead. Hashem Beikzadeh sent a delightful cross into the hosts’ box and Akbarpour headed the ball into Babaei’s goal.
Half an hour later, Esteghlal celebrated its second goal. Khosro Heidari’s cross was brought down by Akbarpour for Alireza Abbasfard in front of Ahvaz’s goal and he fired a shot into the net.
Esteghlal of Ahvaz’s Javad Mahini missed a penalty before the break.
Arash Borhani got himself on the score sheet in the 85th minute, firing a powerful shot from Esteghlal of Ahvaz’s penalty spot into the net.
Esteghlal leads the IPL with 49 points, followed by Zob Ahan with 44 points
