TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Sunday held talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Saud Al-Faisal in Riyadh, the Foreign Ministry reported.

Mottaki emphasized the necessity of regular negotiations among the Islamic states. “The consultations of the regional and Islamic states can lay the foreground for (implementing) regional plans and making decisions in keeping with the interests of the regional nations.”
He also called for the expansion of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
“The two countries have potentials which can be beneficial to the stability, peace, unity, and security of the region and the Islamic world.”
The Iranian foreign minister made a reference to the Palestine issue, saying, “The frequent defeats of the enemies have broken their (delusions of) grandeur. During the past two years, the Zionist regime has been defeated not by a classic army but by resistance groups. The time is ripe for coordination and consultation for the political victory of Palestine.”
Al-Faisal, for his part, praised Iran’s efforts to resolve the problems of the Islamic world and the region.
He added, “We see Iran as a powerful and great country which has a distinguished strategic status in the region.”
On the recent regional developments, the Saudi foreign minister said, “Some of the problems which led to the presence of foreigners in the region were due to the wrong policies of Saddam (Hossein)… Today, we can overcome the problems only with a unity and unanimity among the regional countries.”-
