Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami will attend the Alliance for Civilizations summit in Istanbul April 6 and 7.

U.S. President Barack Obama will also visit Turkey on April 6-7, following an invitation from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend the forum aimed at fostering dialogue between the West and the Muslim world.
The UN-backed Alliance of Civilizations initiative was launched in 2005 in a bid to help overcome prejudices and misunderstandings between different cultures and religions. It is co-chaired by Turkey and Spain.
The second forum of the UNAOC will see the participation of Erdogan, in addition to Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio, who is the high representative for the Alliance of Civilizations. The forum will be attended by heads of government and more than 50 ministers.
