Iran, Turkmenistan review water, power ties

ASHKHABAD – Iranian Deputy Energy Minister for Water and Wastewater Affairs Mohammadreza Attarzadeh and Turkmen Water Industry Minister Annageldi Yazmyradov met in Ashkhabad on Saturday to discuss ways to increase cooperation in the water sector.

“Iran has great potential and capabilities in water and energy sectors and is prepared to share its experience with Turkmenistan,” Attarzadeh said, IRINN reported.
He added that Iranian companies have so far implemented several water-related projects inside and outside the country and have different overseas projects in hand.
Yazmyradov called for broader participation of Iranian companies in Turkmenistan’s water and agricultural projects.
The Iranian official also met Turkmen Energy and Industry Minister Gurbannyr Annaveliyev and discussed the possibility building a hydropower plant over the Doosti (Friendship) Dam near Iran-Turkmenistan border.
The sides agreed to form a specialized group to study the feasibility of building the power plant.
The officials also held talks on connecting electrical networks between the two countries
