TEHRAN – Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi has reacted to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for his recent remarks about Iran’s post-election unrest, calling them an example of “open interference”.

“The United Nations secretary general, under the influence of the negative atmosphere created by some powers,… has ignored the realities of the recent presidential election in Iran,” Qashqavi said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He said Ban’s remarks were in open violation of UN chief’s duties and international regulations.
Ban called for a halt on Monday to use of force against civilians in Iran and urged authorities to respect civil rights in dealing with protests over presidential election results.
