TEHRAN – Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Tehran Ramazon Mirzoev here on Thursday named Iran as his country’s fourth major economic partner after China, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

He put the annual trade value between the two countries at about $220 million, saying Iranian entities are particularly invited to invest in Tajikistan’s food industry, power sector, as well as pharmaceutical projects, IRNA reported.
“Over 20 Iranian companies are currently active in Tajikistan in the fields of livestock farming, food and detergents,” he said, adding a heart surgery clinic will soon be opened by Iranian investors in Tajikistan.
In February 2009, Iran and Tajikistan agreed on the construction of a rail line that would link the two via Afghanistan. In March 2009, Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan discussed the establishment of a joint bank that they claim will lessen the effects of global economic instability in the region
