Oil spills into Lorestan river

KHORAMABAD, Lorestan Province - A rupture in a pipeline transferring oil from Lorestan Province to Markazi Province led to the spillage of oil into the Kashkan river in Lorestan province on Thursday.

The oil pipeline returned to normal service after 12 hours of repair work.
The incident happened near Poldokhtar, a city in south of Khoramabad.
The Kashkan River is polluted due to the spillage and many species in the river are enduring the consequences. The ecosystem of the river has been damaged repeatedly during the recent years.
“The rupture in the oil pipeline was repaired after hours of spillage into the Kashkan River,” the head of the environment organization of Lorestan Province told the Mehr News Agency.
He added the oil has polluted over 40 kilometers of the river and the damage was still going on.
“The damages to the Kashkan River and the environment cannot be stated in digits,” he said.
