TEHRAN - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called Iran-Syria unity the symbol of resistance in the region.

“The result of this unity is evident in the Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq issues and also in the entire region,” he said during a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Tehran on Wednesday.
The Syrian president traveled to Tehran on Wednesday to congratulate Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his re-election.
Commenting on the current situation in the Middle East, Ayatollah Khamenei said the tide has turned in favor of the resistance and thus the resistance front should take advantage of this opportunity.
In a separate meeting on the same day, the Iranian and Syrian presidents both noted that the current global situation has provided a historic opportunity for regional nations.
The two presidents also said that Iran and Syria should take advantage of this opportunity to improve the situation of the two nations and other regional countries.
The West is seeking to undermine the spirit of resistance in the region but they will eventually suffer a great loss, Ahmadinejad stated.
“Today the world has realized that Western theories are not working anymore and that is why it needs the help and cooperation of Syria and Iran. The main cause of this situation is regional nations’ resistance against greed,” he added.
Ahmadinejad also stated that Iran and Syria are allies and each political development provides an opportunity that should be utilized.
Al-Assad congratulated Ahmadinejad on his victory in the June 12 presidential election, saying, “I have come here today to congratulate you and the Iranian nation. I believe what happened in Iran was an important event and a great lesson for foreign powers.”
The main reason for the enemies’ interference is that they do not want to see the consecutive successes of Iran and Syria repeated in the future, the Syrian president observed
