TEHRAN - Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili announced here on Tuesday that Tehran has prepared an updated package of proposals for the nuclear talks with the 5+1 group.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran… is ready for cooperation to address shared concerns in the international arena,” Jalili told reporters in Tehran.
He said that Iran’s new package of proposals seeks to promote “justice and peace and progress” in the world.
“Last year, after Iran presented its first package, the Geneva talks were held but were suspended due to the other side’s problem,” he stated.
Jalili said the Caucasus conflict, the global financial meltdown, and the U.S. presidential election were some of the reasons that the United States, China, Russia, France, Germany, and Britain suspended the talks that were held in Geneva in July 2008.
Iran has had no nuclear talks with the 5+1 group since then.
However, the six countries are scheduled to hold a meeting later today in Frankfurt, Germany to discuss Iran’s nuclear program.
U.S. President Barack Obama had earlier announced that the Western powers would give Iran until September to resume talks on its nuclear program.
On Friday, the International Atomic Energy Agency issued a new report confirming that Iran is improving its cooperation with the IAEA and that the agency has been able to continue “to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material” in the country
