Enemies can never overthrow Islamic establishment: IRGC commander

TEHRAN -- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has stated that the country’s adversaries will never be able to overthrow Iran’s Islamic establishment.

The enemies of the country, including the United States, are not able to overthrow the establishment “but they are attempting to undermine the principles of the establishment and its core values. And certain people inside the country, who even have revolutionary records, are moving on the same path,” he told a gathering of veterans in Tehran on Wednesday.
He said the nature of the threats facing the country is changing and a military attack does not pose the most serious threat anymore.
Iran’s armed forces were expecting a U.S. attack on the country since Iranian calendar year 1380 (March 2001-March 2002), but the U.S. never dared to carry out its threats, the IRGC commander added.
However, Jafari stated that the armed forces should always try to increase their strength.
The post-election unrest was the most important incident in the history of the Islamic Revolution that could have threatened the core values of the revolution, he observed.
“The recent incidents were not a simple issue and had been planned months before (the election), and even the enemies have said that they are seeking to change the Islamic Republic’s behavior. This change of behavior means a departure from the revolution’s principles,” he added
