Iran establishes art gallery in Rotterdam

TEHRAN – Iran has recently established an art gallery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Iran’s deputy ambassador to the Netherlands Mr. Hosseini (first name not given) and Mahmud Shaluii, the director of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry’s Office for Visual Arts attended the opening ceremony.
Hosseini said that the gallery would help establish bilateral cultural exchange between Iran and the West, and would play a major role in introducing Persian art, the Persian service of Fars reported on Saturday.
He added that art is the best means of promoting culture and such centers help achieve this objective.
Shaluii also remarked that the development of an international presence of Persian art is a must, adding, “Over the past 30 years, Iranian artists have achieved lofty positions in the world. Wherever there is an artistic event, there is the sign and name of Persian art.
“After Iran’s successful participation in the Venice Biennial this year and the opening of Iran’s art gallery, it was decided to establish additional galleries in other countries to help introduce Iranian art and artists,” he stated.
He also pointed to the fact that the economy of art is a major concerns for artists, who hope that Iran’s art gallery in Rotterdam that displays and sells Iranian artwork, can boost the economy in the visual arts.
He also added that Iran would soon be opening a new art gallery in Paris.
Iran’s art gallery is now displaying works by 40 artists, including Iraj Eskandari, Gizella Sinaii, Ahmad Vakili, Nima Petgar, Habib Tohidi, Reza Khodadai, Javad Nobahar and Hassan Yaquti.
