Iranian duo win gold and silver in Asian Athletics Championship

Guangzhou, China - Iranian athletes Ehsan Haddadi and Mohammad Samimi claimed gold and silver medals on Saturday in the Men’s discus throw of the 18th Asian Athletics Championship.

Hadadi, who is the Asian record holder, is back after an unsuccessful performance in the 2008 Olympic Games due to injury. This time he hurled the discus to 64.83 meters and won his third in a row continental title in the Men’s discus throw. This was Iran’s second gold in the event. Sajad Moradi had won the gold medal in Men’s 800 meters on Friday.
Another Iranian thrower Mohammad Samimi wanted to threaten Ehsan, but managed only 64.01 meters. Wu Tao, the 2003 Asian champion from China, took the bronze medal with 59.27 meters.
Hadi Sepehrzad won the silver medal in the decathlon, while Iranian woman athlete Leila Rajabi seized the bronze medal in the shot put.
About 800 athletes and 300 officials and referees from some 40 Asian countries and regions have taken part the event. The 18th Asian Athletics Championship got underway on November 10 in Guangzhou, China, and finished on November 14
