Arab League criticizes Israeli proposal on temporary borders
Egypt, Jordan reject Israeli actions against Palestinians

CAIRO (Saba)- Assistant Arab League Secretary General for Palestine Affairs Ambassador Mohammad Subaih strongly criticized on Sunday the Israeli President Shimon Peres' proposal on a Palestinian state with temporary borders, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported on Sunday.

In a press release, Subaih said that the proposal interfered with the Arab position of referring to the UN Security Council a draft resolution for the recognition of a Palestinian state within 1967 internationally-recognized borders.

He described Peres proposal as a “serious confusion” on the Arab position, saying that Peres was not taken seriously and it is part of public relations and media.

Subaih added that Peres is currently using “deceptive verbal maneuvers” against the peace process, instead of clinging to what was signed by the Labor Party in Oslo, as he come to deny it all, and defends Israel's occupation, the settlement, and continued aggressive actions in occupied Beit-ul-Moqaddas and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In regards on how Arabs would react to the Israeli proposals for the establishment of a provisional Palestinian state, Subaih said “Arab countries must continue their efforts, and work to support the Palestinian people, national unity and purify the Arab position of all impurities, including constant commitment in the Arab peace initiative.”

Meanwhile, Egypt and Jordan expressed Sunday their full support for the Palestinian cause, and rejected Israeli policies against the Palestinian people including the siege on Gaza Strip and the building of settlements on occupied Palestinian territories, KUNA reported on Sunday.

Both countries, whose prime ministers co-chaired the Egyptian-Jordanian committee, rejected the Israeli judaization of occupied Beit-ul-Moqaddas and agreed on importance of addressing inter-Palestinian differences for the sake of conciliation.

Egyptian government spokesman Majdi Radhi said in a statement the resolution of the Palestinian cause was through the establishment of two states, a Palestinian State with Beit-ul-Moqaddas as its capital living side-by-side with Israel.

The committee, however, is keen on the unity and stability of Yemen, voicing support for the government of Sanaa in its measures to crack down on the rebels, said the spokesman.

Jordan and Egypt, said Radhi, have also voiced desire to see unity, stability and sovereignty of Sudan. They have also welcomed the formation of the new Lebanese government.

The committee, on a bilateral note, called for increasing trade exchange which stood at $833 million in 2008. The committee members discussed ways of bolstering trade exchange and joint investments, said Radhi
