The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Nursultan Nazarbayev met on Sunday to discuss prospects of energy and transport cooperation.

Among concrete projects prioritized in bilateral and regional partnership the presidents named such projects as the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline and the North-South transport corridor (Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran) currently under construction.
Nazarbayev attended a ceremony to commission the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline.
Speaking on the importance of the transnational trunk gas pipeline, which unites in geographic and economic terms four countries, the Kazakh president noted, “The commissioning of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline built for a very short period of time sets a graphical example of successful cooperation in ensuring energy security and diversifying the routes of energy carriers to the world markets.”
Speaking on the construction of another joint project – the North-South railway, the presidents stressed its importance as the shortest way between Asia and Europe.
The meeting also highlighted humanitarian cooperation, the issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest. In general, the presidents indicated that “currently Turkmen-Kazakh relations are really on a rise and are filled with a qualitatively new content due to bilateral contacts at all levels boosted recently.”
