TEHRAN –– Iranians staged massive demonstrations across the country after Friday prayers to condemn the recent insult to the memory of the late Imam Khomeini.

On December 7, which is Student Day in Iran, images were shown on state television of demonstrators tearing up a poster of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.
Activists affiliated with parties of all political persuasions, students, and seminary instructors rose up and unanimously condemned the action.
Demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the action and pledging allegiance to the ideals of Imam Khomeini and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The demonstrators also called for firm action to be taken against the perpetrators in order to discourage others from repeating such outrageous acts.
In addition, they severely censured the suspicious movements aiming to undermine the Islamic establishment.
In Tehran, a major demonstration was held in front of the main gate of the University of Tehran.
Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, First Deputy Judiciary Chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, and a number of other senior officials attended the event in Tehran.
At the end of the Tehran demonstration, a statement was issued urging all citizens to be vigilant and to attempt to acquire deep political insight.
The statement also called for legal action to be taken against the people who dared to tear up the Imam’s poster.
Iranian media outlets announced last week that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident
