TEHRAN -- The Armed Forces Judicial Organization has issued a statement announcing that three of the detainees of the post-election unrest who were held at the Kahrizak detention center died due to beatings.

In the case, 22 officials were originally suspects, but it was determined that only 12 officials should go on trial facing charges of murder, the statement issued on Saturday said.
The statement added that the Legal Medicine Organization has confirmed that none of the three prisoners died of meningitis and physical abuse was the only cause of death for all of them.
Mohsen Rouholamini, Mohammad Kamrani, and Amir Javadifar were the three men who died at Kahrizak.
The Kahrizak detention center, located south of Tehran, was closed on the order of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei because of its substandard conditions and mistreatment of inmates.
In a decree issued on August 29, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani appointed a three-man judiciary committee to pursue all issues related to the post-election incidents, including the unrest at the University of Tehran dormitory and certain detention centers.
The committee members were Deputy Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeesi, National Prosecutor General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and Judiciary advisor Ali Khalafi
