Iran to mount major military exercise next month

TEHRAN – Iran’s Army ground forces are scheduled to carry out a large-scale military maneuver in early February.

The exercise is aimed at improving the tactical capabilities of the army and testing its power to display operational mobility, Ahmadreza Pourdastan, the Army ground forces commander, said in a meeting with the servicemen from the Army Political and Ideological Organization.
The commander went on to say that infantry, cavalry, telecommunication, and intelligence units of the army will be involved in the drills in cooperation with some units of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).
Through this military exercise the Iranian ground forces will send a message of peace and friendship to the countries in the region, he noted.
All the military equipment and vehicles planned to be used in this exercise have been designed and manufactured by the Iranian Defense Industries Organization, he explained.
He also announced that the mass production of some armored vehicles such as the Zolfaghar tank and a personnel carrier named “Sayyad” will go on stream in the near future
