TEHRAN -- Iran exported some 4.5 million tons of cement to 40 countries in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2009).

The Mehr News Agency quoted Deputy Industries and Mines Minister Mohammad-Masoud Samieinejad as saying that, “Iran aims at exporting 5 million tons of cement in the current year and up to now 90 percent of the objective has been fulfilled.”
Iraq, the Persian Gulf littoral states, and the Central Asian countries were the major destinations for the exported cement.
Iran currently produces some 65 million tons of cement per year.
Eight cement projects are projected to come on stream by March 2010 to boost Iran’s cement production capacity to 76 million tons
