KHORRAMSHAHR – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on Monday for the mobilization of all resources to fully reconstruct the southern city of Khorramshahr severely hit during the Iraqi occupation of the city in 1980.

The president on Monday launched the largest water supply project in Khorramshahr.
The inauguration came on May 24, the day marking the liberation of the city from the occupation of Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein.
The coastal city of Khorramshahr was recaptured by Iranian forces on May 24, 1982.
Turning point
The liberation of Khorramshahr was a turning point in the Iranian and world history and was a lesson not only to the Iranian nation but to the humanity, Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony to mark the liberation anniversary.
“The recapture of Khorramshahr” set the stage for a “great movement in the world history and the humanity’s movement toward perfection,” he stated.
In the liberation of Khorramshahr, the divine ideology won over capitalism, he noted.
Today the Iranian nation has two obligations: first developing Iran and second participating effectively and powerfully in the management of world affairs with the aim of reforming the global system and establishing justice.
