TEHRAN – The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has started designing a newer and a more powerful nuclear research reactor than the current Tehran reactor, AEOI director Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Wednesday.

The preliminary designing of the new reactor will probably take one year, Salehi told IRNA news agency.
He said that the reactor would be operational within five years, adding all of its parts will be manufactured inside the country.
However, no decision has been made on the location of the reactor, he added.
He also said that the Tehran research reactor will remain in operation for at least fifteen years.
