Quran- desecration threatens world peace: Indonesia

September 15, 2010 - 0:0

Indonesia's president on Tuesday warned that the desecration of the holy Quran by a group of anti-Islam elements in the U.S. could “threaten global peace.”

“With burning the Quran, ways would open for the desecration of other holy books and sites and this is a hideous trend that could threaten global peace,” IRNA quoted Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as saying.
The Indonesian president also called on Muslims in the world to protest the “desecrating move.”
Earlier, Yudhoyono had warned that such a move “could lead to a conflict between religions.”
Two evangelical preachers in Tennessee set copies of the Quran on fire and members of the group Operation Rescue tore pages from the holy book of Islam.
In another incident, a group of individuals tore some pages of a copy of the Quran in front of the White House.
The move brought condemnations from the Muslim world and the international community.
