Calligrapher Abolhassan Mohasses dies at 79

TEHRAN -- Iranian calligrapher Abolhassan Mohasses passed away at his home on Tuesday morning. He was 79.

Mohasses suffered from various illnesses following his stroke two years ago, his friend Amir Ameli told the Persian service of the Fars News Agency.
Born in 1931 in Qazvin, he was the founder of the Qazvin Calligraphy Association and was a member of the High Council of the Persian Calligraphy Association.
He was also a collector of calligraphy artworks and he bequeathed his collection to the museum of the Qazvin Calligraphy Association before his death.
His only book “Curl of Beloved” contains 178 artworks in different styles of calligraphy on religious themes as well as selected poems by Hafez, Sadi, Khayyam and Saeb Tabrizi.
According to his will, he will be buried in his hometown of Qazvin but the time of the funeral procession has not been specified yet, Ameli added.
