ILI to host Conference on ELT in the Islamic World

TEHRAN -- The Iran Language Institute (ILI), one of the leading language teaching centers in Iran, will hold the First Conference on ELT in the Islamic World from December 1 to 3 in Tehran.

The objective of this conference is to enhance the understanding of English Language Training (ELT) and the use of ELT theories in second language classes by practitioners and further develop its relationship with other disciplines such as discourse analysis, interlanguage pragmatics, and sociolinguistics.
The primary focus of this conference will be on closing the gap between vision and reality of ELT in the Islamic countries so that the full benefits of sharing experiences and exchanging ideas about the main ELT-related issues in the Islamic World are realized.
Speakers from the ELT arena will present and discuss the latest topics in contemporary and prospective ELT issues. The conference will combine keynote speeches, paper sessions, poster sessions, roundtable discussions, and workshops.
Dan Douglas from Iowa State University, Hossein Farhadi from American University of Armenia, Carol Griffiths from Yeditepe University in Turkey, Gabriele Kasper from University of Hawaii at Manoa, B. Kumaravadivelu from San Jose State University, Roger Nunn from UAE Petroleum Institute, Ali Shehadeh from United Arab Emirates University) and Brian Tomlinson, from Leeds Metropolitan University are the main speakers at the event.
“ELT Materials Development and Evaluation”, “Syllabus Design and Curriculum Development”, “Research on English Language Teaching/Learning”, “English Language Testing and Assessment”, “Socio-cultural Factors and English Education” and “Teaching English to Young Learners” are among the main topics of the conference.
Ali Shehadeh will hold a workshop entitled “Learner-Centered Instruction: What, Why and How?” Carol Griffiths will present a workshop “Teaching for Success in ELT” and Dan Douglas will offer “Using Role plays to Assess ESP Speaking Ability”.
The conference will be held at the Hejab Cultural and Artistic Creation Center which is located on Hejab St., Fatemi Ave.
