TEHRAN - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has issued a statement saying a man who tried to hijack an Iran Air passenger plane en route to Syria on Friday night had connections with counter-revolutionary groups.

The suspect tried to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation by saying that there was a bomb on board the flight, but no explosives were found and he was later arrested by security agents.
After the incident, the Airbus plane landed safely in Damascus.
An official from Iran Air told the Fars news agency that the man has psychological problems.
The Iranian Intelligence Ministry and the IRGC are investigating the case
