TEHRAN – The world’s most elegant wooden copy of the Holy Quran was unveiled during a ceremony at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance on Saturday.

“The wood work weighs between 10 to 12kg and it measures 45cm in length, 35 in width and 15 in height,” designer and producer Mohsen Fuladi told the Persian service of IRNA.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) Director Hamid Baqaii, the deputy culture minister for Quranic affairs Hojjatoleslam Hamid Mohammadi.
A variety of pieces of wood, stone, metal and silk is used in different techniques of mosaic work, intarsia, embossing, engraving and several others in producing the book, he said.
“Research for the project took several years, and it also took two years to accomplish the book with an average work of 12 to 17 hours per day.”
This is the first of its kind in the world. The Holy Book has been registered at the Culture Ministry and the National Library of Iran (NLI). “I hope we can register the book in the Guinness Book of Records,” Fuladi said.
The book also contains a collection of 900 names and characters of Almighty God.
If financially supported by officials in charge of handicrafts and Quranic affairs, the project would be completed and ready for distribution to the world within two years, he said
