TEHRAN -- International Cartoon Exhibition of Immigration was inaugurated Sunday at Iran’s Cartoon House in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy where a selection of cartoons on immigration is on display.

The collection is selected from the festival arranged by Don Quichotte Turkish-German-English humor magazine in 2007, director of Don Quichotte and secretary of the exhibit, Turkish cartoonist Erdogan Karayel told the Persian service of Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) on Sunday.
The exhibit was arranged four years ago in collaboration with Don Quichotte magazine, and has so far traveled to 10 different countries including Germany, China, Greece, Turkey and Belgium, he added.
The works on show were chosen out of 1200 submitted from 65 countries by a panel of five jury members, he said, adding that twenty works were awarded and 45 were selected for the exhibit.
This is actually a contest centering on the reason behind immigration and why immigrants are not received warmly in a foreign country, he said.
Karayel believes that immigration is a major concern in the world of today and that the works on display are giving the best response to the question through art.
He believes that Iranian cartoonists draw so precisely that their cartoons seem to look like photos and that they reflect their feelings and history of art in their work.
Works by Iranian cartoonist Masud Ziaei is also among the selected works on show at the exhibit.
