Iran, Georgia sign economic cooperation agreement

TEHRAN- Iran and Georgia inked a memorandum of understanding to expand bilateral cooperation in different fields of economy, especially in the energy sector, the Tasnim News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed by Iranian Labor and Social Welfare Minister Ali Rabiei and Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili during the 5th meeting of Iran-Georgia Joint Economic Commission, which was held in Tehran on May 18 and 19.

A Georgian delegation headed by Kvirikashvili and comprising six deputy ministers, four general directors of the country’s departments and the mayor of Tbilisi visited Iran to take part in the commission.

During his stay in Iran, Kvirikashvili visited Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.

Georgia was the 30th biggest importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Iran exported $97.417 million of non-oil goods to Georgia and imported $50.485 million of non-oil goods from the country.
