“13” wins top prizes at Shanghai Intl. Film Festival

TEHRAN - Iranian filmmaker Hooman Seyyedi’s debut movie “13” won the awards in best film and best cinematography categories in the Asian New Talent Award section of the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), the organizers announced on Friday.


“Young Love Lost” and “Wolf Warrior” both from China, “Labor of Love” from India, and “0.5mm” from Japan were also nominated for best film award in the section.

The best cinematography award was presented to Ali Tabrizi. In this category, the film competed with the nominations “Labor of Love” from India, “SITI” from Indonesia, “Bon Lin” from Japan, and “A Fresh Start” from South Korea.

The best director award went to Momoko Ando for “0.5mm” and Eddie Cahyono received the best scriptwriter award for “SITI”.

“13” centers on the loneliness and rebellious rage that surrounds Bemani, a 13-year-old boy whose parents have divorced.

Earlier in 2014, “13” won the NETPAC Award at the 30th Warsaw Film Festival, which was held from October 10 to 19.

The film also shared the New Currents Award with South Korean filmmaker Kim Daehwan’s “End of Winter” at the 19th Busan Film Festival, which was held in South Korea from October 2 to 11.

The jury panel of the Asian New Talent Award was composed of Taiwanese director Yee Chih-yen, French producer Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, Malaysian actress Sinje Lee and Chinese actor Huang Xuan.

“Rending a Garment” by Hamidreza Qotbi was the other Iranian movie that went on screen at the SIFF.
