Iranian Expatriates, National Assets

TOKYO Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Wednesday referred to the Iranian expatriates as amongst the country's national assets. Speaking at a gathering of Iranians residing in Japan, he added For an Iranian to keep his/her identity means to remain an Iranian and to keep his/her religion and culture. He also told the audience, Unity among you who are engaged in scientific, cultural, and religious endeavors can be instrumental in siphoning investments and technology to iran.

The Iranian foreign minister further remarked that Iran is an independent nation and that its relations with the countries it recognizes, are based on mutual respect and at equal terms. He reiterated that Iranian President Mohammad Khatami's proposal for dialog among civilizations, welcomed by the world, is a testimony to the fact that Iran favors dialog and understanding. Kharrazi noted, Iran because of its self-confidence and cultural riches can attract attention to its religion, culture and revolution, while it can get to know other cultures as well.' Kharrazi who is on a four-day official visit to Japan, on an invitation by his Japanese counterpart, is the first Iranian foreign minister visiting the country in 11 years.

Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura is scheduled to visit Tehran next year to discuss bilateral and regional issues with Iranian officials, it was announced here on Wednesday. (IRNA)
