Former Germany basketball coach Dirk Bauermann is a candidate to take charge of Team Iran.

The technical committee of Iran Basketball Federation has chosen the 61-year-old coach as the leading candidate for Iran’s position.

Iran had already reached an agreement with Serbian coach Luka Pavicevic but newly-reappointed president Mahmoud Mashhoon disagreed with the candidate.

Bauermann will travel to Tehran within the next few days to finalize the contract.

Defending champion Iran must participate in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in late September.

Team Iran has been pitted against Japan, Malaysia and South Asia Qualifier in Group A.
