TEHRAN -- A wave of congratulatory messages by Iranian cineastes, writers and cultural figures was published on social networks and Persian news websites after Iran and six major world powers reached a nuclear deal on Tuesday.

“The positive result of the talks kept hope alive, something that is very crucial for society today,” Tahmineh Milani, who is labeled as the feminist filmmaker of Iranian cinema, told the Persian service of ILNA on Tuesday.

“Due to the international sanctions against Iran over the past years in addition to numerous economic setbacks, we have suffered from cultural and social problems,” she added.

The writer of the acclaimed novel “The Colonel”, Mahmud Dowlatabadi, wrote, “I hope this deal can convince people from all walks of life that our society will survive the deadlock, that it will save the people from the economic depression, and that it is going to erase moral bankruptcy.”

Persian daily Sharq also published comments from some artists on Wednesday.

“This deal is not only beneficial for Iran but also for all nations around the world,” veteran actor Ezzatollah Entezami told the daily.

“We have had problems with international agreements since the Constitutional Movement, but today, a breeze of hope is blowing,” filmmaker Masud Kimiai said.

“The deal is a significant event for which we should congratulate the Iranian people and remain hopeful that this deal would help establish better relations between Iran and other countries,” composer Shahrdad Rohani stated.

Poet Saeid Biabanaki, actors Hamid Gudarzi, Setareh Eskandari, Elham Pavenejad, Shabnam Moqaddami, and Baran Kowsari, composer Sohrab Purnazeri and a large number of other artists also thanked Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the other Iranian negotiators in the messages that they wrote on their Instagram accounts and Facebook posts.

In addition, Iranians took to the streets in Tehran and other large cities to celebrate following the announcement of the deal with major powers.
