TEHRAN -- Oscar-winning Spanish star Penélope Cruz is scheduled to play a role in Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s new film, which will be shot in Spain.

“I have always liked her acting especially what she did in ‘Volver’ by director Pedro Almodóvar,” Farhadi told the Persian daily Sharq in its Saturday edition.

“A year ago when we spoke about the story of the film, I was confident that, due to her eagerness, she would be a good choice for the role,” he added.

Cruz also elaborated about her talks with Farhadi in an extensive interview published in the September edition of the Spanish magazine Fotogramas.

“Asghar told me the story a year ago and I said yes without reading the script,” she said.

The French company Memento Films Production and the Spanish cineaste Pedro Almodóvar Caballero will be the producers of the as yet untitled film, which is scheduled to be shot in October 2016.

Memento Films was the producer of “The Past”, Farhadi’s first film shot outside of his homeland in France.

French star of the film Bérénice Bejo won best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 for her role in the film.
