TEHRAN -- German director Edward Berger’s drama “Jack” won the Golden Jasmine for best film in the international competition of the 3rd Jasmine International Film Festival, an Iranian event dedicated to screening video productions.

The film co-produced by Jan Krüger and René Römert is about Jack, a ten-year-old boy for whom having a family is the most important thing in the world.

Then, together with six-year-old brother Manuel, he embarks on a journey to find their missing mother.

The film also brought Berger the Golden Jasmine for best director.

The closing ceremony of the festival was held under a heavy shower of rain in the courtyard of the Ramsar Hotel on Thursday evening.

“It is pouring rain, O God, a bit slower please,” joked actor Borzu Arjmand, who was the host of the ceremony.

Italian director/producer Uberto Pasolini was honored with the special jury award for “Still Life”.

Dieter Hallervorden, the star of German director Kilian Riedhof’s “Back on Track”, won the best actor award for the portrayal of Paul Averhoff, a former Olympic champion who wants to compete in the Berlin Marathon one last time, in the film.



The Golden Jasmine for best screenwriters went to Svetlana Grudovich and Olga Pogodina-Kuzmina for “Two Women”, a joint production of Russia, France, UK and Latvia.

In addition, Gints Berzins won the Golden Jasmine for best cinematographer for the film.

In the Asian competition section, the Golden Jasmine for best film went to “The Village” produced by Gia Bazgadze and Constantine Lusignan from Georgia.

The award for best director was presented to banned Singaporean filmmaker Ken Kwek for his dark comedy “Unlucky Plaza”.

Hassan Rostamani won the award for best actor for his role in “The Descendants” directed by Yaser Talebi from Iran.

In the national competition section, the award for best film was presented to “Burning” produced by Ali Ansarian and Misaq Vesal while Behrang Tofiqi won the award for best director for the film.
