Vancouver theater to screen “Nightshift”, “I Am Not Salvador”

TEHRAN – Vancouver’s Centennial Theatre is scheduled to screen Iranian social dramas “Night Shift” on February 7 and “I Am Not Salvador” on March 11, the Canadian theater announced on its website.
“Night Shift” directed by Niki Karimi centers on a young woman anguished over the strange behavior of her husband who remains calm despite being in big trouble.

“I Am Not Salvador” directed by Manuchehr Hadi tells the story of an Iranian man who is invited to take a trip to Brazil with his family.


“Iranian Ninja” to compete in Belgian Festival

TEHRAN – Iranian documentarian Marjan Riahi’s “Iranian Ninja” will compete in the 8th Women’s Film Festival of Elles Tournent, which will be held in Brussels from January 28 to February 1.

The internationally acclaimed movie chronicles the struggles of Khatereh Jalilzadeh for training young girls how to twirl nunchucks and launch dropkicks in Tehran.

“Iranian Ninja” was named best documentary at the 8th Central Illinois Feminist Film Festival. It also won the Young Jury Award at the 21st Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France.


Sound engineer Yadolla Najafi dies at 60

TEHRAN – Top Iranian sound engineer Yadolla Najafi died of heart failure at his home in Tehran on Saturday. He was 60.

He was still working for Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s new project “The Seller”.

Najafi collaborated on many movies, including Majid Majidi’s “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God”, Niki Karimi’s “Night Shift”, Ahmadreza Darvish’s “Hussein, Who Said No”, and Hamidreza Qotbi’s “Rending a Garment”.


Queens World Film Festival to screen “Oblivion Season”

TEHRAN – The 6th Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) is scheduled to screen Iranian filmmaker Abbas Rafei’s “Oblivion Season” at Museum of the Moving Image located in Astoria, New York on March 15.

The widely-acclaimed social drama centers on a woman who starts a new life by marrying her beloved, but leaving the shadow of her dark past is not as easy as it seemed, and to earn her freedom she must fight against the male-dominated society.

Movies from over 50 countries including Cuba, Spain, Korea, Bangladesh, China, Italy, the Ukraine, Belgium and Finland will vie for awards at the festival that will run from March 15 to 20.


Foreign guests of Fajr theater festival arrive in Tehran

TEHRAN – 38 artists and theatrical figures from different countries arrived in Tehran on Sunday to attend the 34th Fajr International Theater Festival.

The guests are coming from Germany, Georgia, France, Norway, Algeria and several other countries.

Artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program Philip Himberg from the United States, Sandro Mrevlishvili from Georgia, Martine Dennewald from Germany, Neil van der Linden from the Netherlands and Anne-Françoise Benhamou from France are among the guests at the festival.
