TEHRAN -- Minster of Economic Affairs and Finance Tahmasb Mazaheri here on Sunday, said that government has no plans to specify a ceiling on import of goods, including vehicles and neither does it intend to set quota for any imported product.

Speaking at the Majlis to defend the draft on the Program Against Money-Laundering, he said that indicating a ceiling on import of vehicles will be a step backward.

He noted that the cabinet has already approved the executive by-law on import of vehicles, IRNA reported.

Mazaheri said that once the Ministry of Industries and Mines specified the technical standards of importable vehicles, importers would be permitted to import them.

"According to the by-law, any number of vehicles can be imported by individuals and organizations," he added.

He noted that the technical specifications of importable vehicles, which are to be drawn up by the Ministry of Industries and Mines, might have to be confirmed by the government.

The minister predicted that the Ministry of Industries and Mines would announce the technical specifications of importable vehicles within two to three weeks.

He said that the government has not forecast any specific revenue from vehicles import in the current Iranian year (started March 21).

"However, its income from import of all goods as specified in the current year's budget bill amounts to Rls.32,000 billion," he concluded.
