Iran Crushes Bangladesh in Asian Table Tennis Meet
A 3-0 victory over Bangladesh helped Iran advance into the last eight.
On Tuesday, Iran grabbed two wins in this southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The group B-bound Iran defeated the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
Consisting of Afshin Norouzi, Aref Ahmadifar, and Mohammad Samadabadi, the Iranian side crushed the UAE 3-0.
Iran managed to beat powerful Hong Kong 3-1 as Norouzi starred and won two matches out of three. Samadabadi won one game.
The 9th Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship started Tuesday morning in Hyderabad with the participation of 22 countries.
The nine-member Iranian team arrived in Hyderabad to participate in the six-day tournament, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu at Sri Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium, Yousufguda, Hyderabad.
Some 200 players will participate in the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship which is organized by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), under the authority granted by the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU).
The winning teams and players in various events will be awarded trophies. The winner of each event will receive gold medal, the losing finalist will receive silver medal, and losing semifinalist will receive bronze medal.
The top four teams in the competition will get a direct entry into the next edition of the championship.
Team championship finals would be held on Thursday which will be followed by the individual events.
Iran comprises players Afshin Norouzi, Sina Kayhan, Aref Ahmadifar, Mohammad Samadabadi, and Seyed Pouria Omrani.
Korean manager Jang Il-chul and coach Mehrdad Babadivand are steering the Iranian side.
Iran stood sixth in the 8th edition.
