TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- Resting place of the most renowned Iranian painter Kamlolmolk has been registered as a national monument of the country, Mohammad-Ismail E’temadi director of Neishabour Cultural Heritage Department said here on Wednesday.

E’temadi said that this historic monument has been erected in the Pahlavi era over the resting place of Mohammad Ghaffari, better known as “Kamalolmolk”.

The resting place, which has been designed and built by Houshang Seihoun in 1962 with the cooperation of Iran National Monument Association, is a combination of traditional and modern architecture.

It is a concrete building ornamented with tiles, he said.

“Having 6 pillars, the building is located inside the garden of Sheikh Farid ad-din Attar of Neyshabur.

“Designer of Kamalolmolk’s resting place has designed some other prominent sites such as the resting places of Sa’di, Khayyam, Hafez, Ferdowsi, and the Tower of Azadi at Tehran Azadi Square.

Mohammad Ghaffari or “Kamalolmolk” was born in Kashan, central city of Iran, in 1847.

After completing elementary education, Kamalolmolk entered Tehran Dar ul-Funun school. Showing his artistic talents, he drew the attention of E’tezad ul-Saltaneh, education minister of the time.

He has made a sketch of the minister’s face which was very attractive to the Qajar King Naser ad-Din Shah (ruled 1848-1896).

In 1929, Kamalolmolk went to Neishabour and resided in his personal house in the village of Hossein Abad-e Kamal around the city of Firouzeh, Neishabour, Khorasan Province.

He passed away in 1940. His body was buried in Neishabour near the cemetery of the broad-minded poet Sheikh Attar Neishabouri.
