TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency)— Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said that Iran is willing to give any kind of support which would help stabilize Iraq and improve the status of its people.

Iran hopes that an independent and powerful government would be established in Iraq as soon as possible, Kharrazi said in meeting with the current Iraqi Governing Council Chairman and Kurdish leader jalal Talabani.

Talebani, heading a top-ranking Iraqi delegation, arrived here and began talks with foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi and President Mohammad Khatami.

Pointing to the importance of preserving Iraq's territorial integrity Kharrazi said that Tehran's policy is based non-interference in Iraq's internal affairs.

He added that the bilateral cooperation between the two countries will pave the ground for the establishment of peace and stability in the region and enhance regional cooperation.

Kharrazi further said that speeding up the political and economic reconstruction process in Iraq is essential adding that the two sides can cooperate in different fields due to their current capabilities.

Talabani also said Baghdad is determined to achieve constructive agreements with Tehran.

"We are determined to reach a constructive agreement through this trip," Talebani said.

The Iraqi council chairman highlighted the damages inflicted upon the Iraqi nation during Sadam Hussein's government.

"We intend to establish security for the Iraqi nation, enhance their national unity and maintain Iraq's territorial integrity. We want Iraq to be for all Iraqis," he said.

Talebani said that Iraq's stability is of prime importance noting that the Iraqi Governing Council follows up the issue seriously. HL/MS End MNA
