TEHRAN -- The Iranian film “Tears of Cold” was the biggest winner at the International Festival of Muslim Cinema, which was held from September 10 to 17 in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia.

The movie won the Best Film, Best Director (Azizollah Hamidnejad), and Best Actress (Golshifteh Farahani) Golden Minbars of the festival.

Hamidnejad also collected the $50,000 prize money that comes with the Best Film Golden Minbar.

“Tears of Cold” is set in Kordestan at the height of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) and tells the story of a romance between a young soldier and a Kurdish female fighter, a love that starts with blood and explosion and ends with blood and carnage. Hamidnejad had previously said in an interview, “Part of the story narrates my own military service experience, in addition to describing my character and experiences. Each part of the film shows one corner of my life.”

Other Iranian films, including “Dead Heat under the Shrubs”, “Hayat”, “World War II”, and “Eduardo”, were also screened in different sections of the festival.
