Rezazadeh to leave for Doha today
The beefy icon is to carry Iran's flag in the opening ceremony of the 15th Asian Games in Doha Friday.
The Executive Committee of Iran's National Olympic Committee (NOC) preferred the lifter to other two nominees -- world taekwondo champion Hadi Saii and top judoka Arash Mir-Esmaeili.
Rezazadeh will be the only Iranian weightlifter in the Games if the 105kg Asghar Ebrahimi fails to set the required record.
Nine of the 11-strong Iranian team underwent doping tests by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on September 24 and reported to test positive for banned blood-enhancing drugs.
The Iranian team was to depart on September 25 for Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, where the 75th World Weightlifting Championships were held.
The world body imposed a lifetime ban on Iran's Bulgarian trainer Georgi Ivanov.
The IWF heavily fined the Iranian federation and banned nine lifters for an unprecedented dope case.
Iran's federation got fined $400,000 and the weightlifters were banned for two years each.
National lifter Mohsen Davudi, who tested positive in the past as well as two months ago, was banned from international games permanently.
The IWF President Tamas Ajan personally invited Rezazadeh to attend the world meet.
Iran's Physical Education Organization (PEO) replaced former federation president Ali Moradi with Bahram Afsharzadeh.
