TEHRAN -- Qods Day provides a good opportunity to support the Palestinian people and inform the world about the injustice committed against the Palestinian nation and the brutality of the Zionist regime, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmud Hashemi Shahrudi said here on Monday.

Qods Day is one of the greatest things proposed by the late Imam Khomeini, Shahrudi stated during a session of high-ranking Judiciary officials.
All Muslims in the world should support the Palestinian people, he added. “The Muslims in Iran and the world will show that the oppressed Palestinian people are not alone.”
In addition to these heinous crimes, the Zionist regime intends to sow discord among Palestinian resistance groups, but the Palestinians will foil these conspiracies through their vigilance, he observed.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Judiciary chief said President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s visit to the UN brought about unity between political groups and parties at home and showed the world the dignity and strength of the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile Lebanese Ambassador to Tehran Zeinuddin Mussavi said that International Qods Day rally is aimed at supporting Palestine.
He told a press conference held at IRNA that the Lebanese people will wholeheartedly take part in the huge rally on the occasion on October 5 to share sympathy with the Palestinian nation.
""Designation of the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Qods Day by the late Imam Khomeini indicates the degree of attention the Islamic Republic founder paid to the fate of Muslims,"" Mussavi said.
Palestinian Ambassador to Tehran Salah al Zawawi was also present in the press conference.
Mussavi said that since designation of the day as the International Qods Day by the late Imam Khomeini, nations have been resisting the will which tried to halt the ceremony and Muslims take part in the event more than the former year.
""No body can downgrade or ignore the importance of the Day. Even those thinking of compromise can not underestimate value of the Day.""
Elsewhere in the interview, Mussavi said the International Qods Day has had undeniable impact on Lebanese victory over the Zionist enemy in the years 2000 and 2006.
""Qods Day is a token of resistance and perseverance and had a grave impact on Hezbollah victory last year.""
Asked about Iran's proposal for holding referendum in Palestine, Mussavi said Palestinians have no problem with the referendum and the problem is with Israel and its supporters.
He said, however, it is unlikely that the referendum to be held owing to procrastination of Israel and its allies.
On Palestine Peace Conference, dated for November, he said he believed the conference would be futile given the U.S. support for Israel.
""Such a conference aims to drag Arab states into gradual compromise. It was said in the Madrid Conference that peace will be established in spring. Spring passed and it is now the fall season with no trace of peace. No peace has yet been established after long years.""
He said Israel's interests lie in division of Muslims and ""our interests lie in consultation and unity. Naturally Israel uses all its leverage for the purpose. We, Muslims should use all means available to consolidate unity and Islamic integration.
