A report says Iran’s soccer federation has appointed Afshin Qotbi, Tehran’s Persepolis boss, as manager of the country’s national team.

The Jam-e-Jam network’s report comes after Iran’s deal with Spain’s Javier Clemente fell through due to a wrangle over his living conditions.
The head of the federation, Ali Kafashian, was quoted by Fars news agency as saying that Qotbi should become the new coach.
Kafashian had confirmed earlier this week that Iran would hire a homegrown coach for the South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Qotbi who has strong coaching credentials, has served as Dutch wizard Guus Hiddink’s technical assistant in South Korea.
