Strengthening economic ties with Africa, Iran’s top priority

TEHRAN – Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines chairman here on Tuesday announced that promotion of economic relations with African states is on top of Iran’s agenda.
“Iran’s economic situation is such that it can boost ties with Africa,” Mohammad Nahavandian said in the meet with Eritrean tradesmen.He voiced Iranian businessmen’s eagerness to invest in the African country which has great potentials and a promising economic future, assuring that Iran has the ability to invest in Eritrea’s seaports, airports, and the power generation industry.
Meanwhile in this meeting, Eritrean President Isaias Afewerke announced that his country has great mining potentials, voicing his country’s need for foreign investment in industry.
He said that Iranian-made products are present in Eritrea’s market in the form of re-export, expressing hope for direct imports from Iran.
He invited Nahavandian to dispatch a delegation to Eritrea in a bid to review the country’s possible potentials.
The visiting official stated that Iranian investors could hold from one percent to one hundred percent of an Eritrean company, adding, “But we emphasize on joint ventures.”
