TEHRAN – The managing director of Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) here on Wednesday stated that the production line of Samand sedan will come on stream in Senegal on December 5.
IRNA quoted Manuchehr Manteqi as saying that the production line will have the capacity of manufacturing 10,000 sedans per annum. Some $60 million has been invested in the plan of which 60 percent was made by the IKCO, 20 percent by Senegal’s government, and the country’s private sector invested the remaining 20 percent of the whole amount.
He said that the production line of Samand sedan has the potential to be increased to 30,000 per year.
“IKCO has divided the African market into three major zones of north, west, and east and Senegal is IKCO’s center of activity in the west of Africa,” added Manteqi.
He went on saying that the company has so far exported 2,000 Samand sedans to Senegal to equip its taxi fleet.
“Due to the high fee for the transportation of car parts, the major and heavy parts are planned to be manufactured either in Senegal or IKCO’s site in Syria,” the official noted.
