LONDON (AFP) -- London shares slid on Monday with trading dominated by sentiment rather than economic data releases as investors took profits from pre-weekend gains.

The FTSE 100 index of leading shares was down 0.22 percent at 5,310.66 points.
Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) was the most traded stock, seeing 400 million units change hands, followed by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which saw 104 million shares switch owners.
Miner Antofagasta was top of the leader board, adding 20 pence -- or 2.22 percent -- to finish at 920, followed by travel company Thomas Cook, which gained 4.2 pence -- or 1.94 percent -- to finish at 221.2.
The day's worst performer was RBS, slipping 1.63 pence -- or 4.71 percent -- to close at 33, followed by LBG, which lost 2.31 pence -- or 4.13 percent -- to close at 53.69.
Meanwhile, the pound lost ground against the dollar while it was almost flat against the euro.
At 17:23GMT, sterling was trading at $1.6414, down from $1.6474 at Friday's close, while it stood at 1.1091 euros, fractionally up from 1.1089 over the same period.
Later this week, London investors will digest the government's pre-budget report on Wednesday, and an interest rate decision from the Bank of England that is scheduled for Thursday.
