TEHRAN - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says that science and production are prerequisites for the development and economic progress of the country.

Iran’s advancements are the result of a system very different than the system of the hegemonistic powers, and that is why they have been struggling against the Iranian nation, but just as they have failed over the past 30 years, they will definitely fail in the future, Ayatollah Khamenei told thousands of workers at a gathering held in Tehran on Wednesday to commemorate Iran’s Workers’ Week.
The enemies, from the outset of the Islamic Revolution, have always sought to conspire against the Islamic Republic through workers and labor issues, but workers have always foiled their plots, he said.
Over many years of monarchy, Iran experienced great backwardness due to inattention to science and production, and to make up for that historical backwardness, it is necessary to redouble efforts and properly utilize the country’s great capacities, he added.
The Leader highlighted the importance of science and research based on modern technology and urged Iran’s experts and workers to redouble the pace of the country’s scientific progress.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Article 44 privatization plan should not be allowed to provide an opening for opportunistic lawbreakers.
“Some people, in order to circumvent the law, may buy factories and sell the land and equipment to line their own pockets, and thus the workers become unemployed and the factories are shut down,” he stated.
