Islamic scholars invited to seminar on English language instruction in Tehran

TEHRAN -- Scholars from Islamic countries will gather in Tehran to attend the first international seminar on English language education in December.
Professors and experts on teaching English will be coming from Pakistan, Malaysia, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Bangladesh and several other countries, secretary of the program Ziaeddin Tajeddin told the Persian service of IRNA.“Training English teachers, preparing educational materials, teaching English to children and adults, globalization and localization in English teaching, and English language for academic purposes are among the topics to be discussed at the three-day event.
Exchanging experiences of masters of teaching English, introducing the great achievements attained by the Iran Language Institute including teaching, research and compiling books are some of the objectives of the seminar.
“Out of 340 articles submitted to the secretariat of the seminar, 48 were selected by scholars. Thirty five articles will be presented by Iranian scholars and the rest by foreign masters. Also included are several selected posters.
“Several international researchers and theoreticians are also invited to make presentations in the seminar and hold workshops. Professor Emeritus Dan Douglas for Iowa State University, Gabriele Kasper from University of Hawaii; Brian Tomlinson, a visiting professor at Leeds Metropolitan University, and Carol Griffith from Turkey are among the invited guests who will be delivering speeches on English education,” he added.
The three-day seminar will open on December 1 at the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA).
An exhibit of books published by the Iran Language Institute will also be open on the sidelines of the seminar.
