TEHRAN -- Political analyst Mohammad-Mahdi Mazaheri argues that a continuation of nuclear dispute between Iran and the West would serve Russia’s interests.

Russia thinks that Iran intends to improve its relations with Moscow as Tehran is under the Western political and economic pressure, Mazaheri told the Mehr News Agency in an interview published on Friday.
So if Tehran’s nuclear issue is resolved through diplomatic channels, Russia would lose, he commented.
Commenting on Russia’s failure to deliver S-300 air defense missiles to Iran, Mazaheri stated that Moscow has always adopted a double-standard approach toward Iran whenever it deems such a move is in its national interest.
However, he added the role of the Zionist lobby must not be ignored in Russia’s decision.
Israeli officials impeded Tehran-Moscow cooperation by suggesting lucrative agreements to Russia, Mazaheri said, referring to the military cooperation agreement signed by the defense ministers of Russia and Israel on September 9.
Russian Chief of Staff General Nikolai Makarov recently announced, “Russia will not deliver S-300 air defense missiles to Iran as planned because such transfers are prohibited under UN sanctions.”
‘Best option is to revive S-300 agreement’
MP Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh has suggested that the best-case-scenario is to revive the S-300 agreement with Russia.
However, if Russia fails to implement the agreement, based on the international regulations, Iran must seek damages from the country, he added.
Falahatpisheh, the chairman of the Majlis Foreign Policy Committee, suggested that Tehran should seek a “tactical” approach rather than an “ideal” one in its relations with Moscow.
‘West seeks to damage Iran-Russia ties’
In his comments MP Javad Jahangirzadeh said that the West seeks to strain relations between Iran and Russia which is not in the best interest of the two countries.
