Manchester United and Bayern Munich target Manuel Neuer has been told by former Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn to leave Schalke if he is to join the ranks of the world class.

Schalke coach Felix Magath described Neuer, 24, as the ""best goalkeeper in the world"" after the club's 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the weekend and Germany's World Cup number one is attracting interest from several elite clubs.
United are believed to be one of Neuer's suitors, despite agreeing to sign Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds in January, and Kahn says his compatriot should seek to join a club that competes in the Champions League every year.
""I think he will become world class,"" Kahn told Bild. ""But he has to take the next step and join one of the great clubs. Then he can play in the Champions League regularly, with Schalke that is certainly possible sporadically but not every year.
